Short Term Psychological Therapy Services

Short-term goal-oriented psychological support for 6 to 12 sessions.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

For people experiencing stress, burnout, sleep issues, or for people who wish to implement lifestyle changes for greater mind health and general wellbeing.

What do sessions look like?

We will begin with an initial consultation session to discuss what you are seeking support for or looking to change. In the first session, we will aim to establish some achievable goals and will agree on how many sessions would be suitable in the first instance.

Depending on what else may come up during our sessions together, you may wish to extend sessions to explore wider issues.

Depending on your goals, sessions may draw upon cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness approaches, and embodied / somatic approaches as required and to fit with you and your needs.

Sessions will offer practical suggestions as well as a reflective space to consider what may be contributing to or perpetuating any concerns and offer approaches and strategies to overcome these.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Longer term therapy is generally more useful for wider issues relating to emotional and psychological wellbeing, including anxiety, low mood, depression, low self-esteem, as well as people wishing to explore concerns around relationships, or traumatic life experiences.

I OFFER

- Psychological therapy for issues relating to anxiety, low mood and depression, low self- esteem, and interpersonal / relationship concerns, and the impact of these on personal and professional life

- Psychological therapy for traumatic life experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

- Explorative and reflective therapeutic work to make sense of experiences and social and relational concerns

- Support for adults and young people with a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition (ASC) / Aspergers, or those considering this as a potential explanation for difficulties they experience and are considering an assessment

What do sessions look like?

Longer term therapy usually lasts for 20 sessions or more. We will establish how many sessions may be suitable in the first instance and review at intervals to ensure we are moving in the right direction for you.

Sessions are 50 mins in length and are generally held once every week. Often, after a period of therapy, the frequency of sessions can then be reduced to fortnightly, then monthly, and on an ad hoc basis as required to ensure gains are maintained.

Sessions offer a non-judgemental, reflective space, where I hope you will feel safe to share. Contrary to some beliefs about therapy, we don’t just talk things through, but we work together to make sense of experiences and overcome challenges. We may consider factors contributing to difficulties, as well as what might be perpetuating issues. Importantly, we consider your relationship with thoughts, emotions and actions and consider alternative perspectives and approaches that will be useful. Ultimately, sessions are aimed to empower you to move towards a life you want to be living, in line with what matters to you and what you hold important.
